Medford Public Library

The city of Medford, Massachusetts was about to start construction of a new public library to replace their small, rundown, and outdated space.

In anticipation of the future building, our goal was to develop a modern identity and online presence to replace their out of date brand and website.

The logo was inspired by a mural of books planned for display inside the library. The mosaic was created by artist Glendalys Medina and Stephen Miotto for a prominent wall that would be part of the new building’s entry and reception area.

Website

With the new building and a potential endowment, there was an expectation that the programming and community outreach would be on a much higher level. Therefore, the initial focus of the new website was activity, community, programs, and services rather than about more traditional items like resources and collections.

During the discovery phase, the client communicated that all departments guide patrons to the website for remote library services, resources, events, and museum passes. Through analyzing the website analytics, I pinpointed the most commonly visited tools and made them front and center in the new design as “Quick Links,” while “Up Next” and “Featured Events” are displayed prominently to promote the library’s robust workshops and programming.
